On November 8th, the Student Affairs Office held the "Career Planning for Newcomers in the Workplace - Career Skills Workshop". The workshop was hosted by Ms. Zhang Peihua, a vocational skills mentor from the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center. With rich experience in vocational training, she guided students to analyze their personal career abilities, establish a positive job-seeking mentality and professional qualities through current events, real-life examples, and interactive exchanges, helping them set preliminary goals and directions for career planning.
At the beginning of the workshop, the mentor first distributed a career planning questionnaire, allowing students to select their personal traits and expertise, as well as their job expectations. She occasionally engaged with students about their daily lives, creating a lively atmosphere and promoting continuous interaction. In a relaxed and enjoyable manner, she gradually helped students understand their own characteristics and recognize potential employment directions. The mentor also analyzed employment data, including indicators such as unemployment rates, underemployment rates, and industry proportions, keeping students informed about market trends.
Afterwards, the mentor cited some popular news events in recent years, using examples to explain difficulties in work and life, and discussed how to handle workplace situations from the perspectives of company systems and colleague psychology. She also emphasized basic workplace etiquette, interpersonal skills, and the importance of punctuality.
During the workshop, the mentor shared that some highly sought-after jobs from her graduation period no longer exist today, while jobs that have now become mainstream didn't even exist then. The rapid societal development has brought about significant changes in just a few years. In recent times, artificial intelligence and automation technologies have emerged, leading to fewer job opportunities. Therefore, future talents must maintain an open mindset, recognize their strengths, embrace lifelong learning, and adapt to changes to stay competitive.
To express gratitude to mentor Zhang Peihua for her dedicated career planning guidance, the Student Affairs Office presented a souvenir to Ms. Zhang, looking forward to her offering more vocational skills courses for students in the future.
